Who is this guy, and what's the deal with the shoes?

Hi, my name is Doug van Kampen. I am a second generation Dutch American who grew up in Southern California. As a child, I spent many hours traveling and printing in the darkroom with my Father. Even though he specialized in large format photography (4 x 5), only breaking from time-to-time to utilize his Nikon 8008, the large negatives used for printing proved beneficial while learning the photographic process, though I use to scoff at spending hours upon hours printing with him. Today I wish I had spent more time and ironically enough, spend hours upon hours in from of my machine processing my own frames.

So you're still wondering about the name, huh? Dutch shoes are traditionally made of wood, hence the name. But there's a bit more to it than that! If my shoes could talk, they would tell the story of where I've been. They will be with me wherever I decide to go in life. Hopefully, I will be able to tell you the story [through my images] of where my shoes have been. Contact me regarding my prints if you wish!
